- Try to rent a car from one of the University's contracted rental car vendors: Enterprise, Hertz , National, Thrifty, or Dollar.
- If one of these agencies has a vehicle accessible for disabled travelers, you do not need to purchase insurance. Insurance will be included as long as you use the UC ID number and that number is listed on the contract. Decline any coverage offered to you at the rental desk.
- If none of these rental car agencies has an outlet in the area you are traveling or if none of these rental car agencies has a vehicle accessible to a disabled traveler, you may obtain a rental car vehicle from another agency.
- The following rental car agencies offer wheelchair-accessible vehicles:
- Wheelchair Getaways, 800-642-2042
- Wheelchair Accessible Van Rentals, 800-456-1371
- Accessible Vans of America, 888-282-8267 - When purchasing insurance from another rental car agency, say yes to (1) coverage that pays for damage to the rental car itself, usually referred to as the Collision Damage Waiver or CDW, and (2) coverage that pays for injury or damage to other people or their property, usually referred to as Liability Insurance and sometimes as Supplemental Liability Insurance. The cost of insurance is reimbursable provided the traveler states on the reimbursement request why the non-contracted rental car vendor had to be used. It would be helpful to show that the traveler did try to book with a contracted vendor but was unsuccessful.
